One final post for the season to say a BIG thank you to all of our amazing vendors, customers, volunteers, and supporters!  Our market wouldn't be here without all of you, and we are so thankful to have support for a local farmer's market here in Indiana.

Remember, many of your favorite vendors have products available in the off-season.  Check out our vendor pages to connect with them!

Final Market of 2019!

Well, it's happening, we've come to our final market of 2019.  That means you still have one last chance to shop with local vendors and stock up on all your favorite market products!

While there is still a great variety of produce for sale, we are also seeing more winter squash, pumpkins, and honey.  A cool morning also makes those fresh baked goods look especially yummy - or bake your own with locally-milled flours and pastured eggs!  Stock up on soaps, meats, ferments, canned jams and sauces, and whatever else you'll need this winter.

Did you know some of our farmers and producers continue to have products available during the off-season?  As you shop this weekend, remember to ask around and find out how you can stay in touch and shop with your favorite vendors after the market is over.  You can also find many of their farms and businesses online.

October 19 Market

Can you believe there are only 2 markets left for the season?!  If you haven't been to the market in a while, there is still time to come see us and stock up on your favorite local products.

There is still so much to see at the market, including beets, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, fennel, garlic, herbs, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, onions, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, squash, tomatoes, turnips, and more.

Remember, you can also find locally-produced eggs, dairy, baked goods, meats, flour, honey, maple syrup, fermented foods, canned goods, and bath and body products.

We will share the S&T lot with the Love of Life 5K this weekend.  If you are involved in this great event, be sure to bring your friends over to the market after the race!

Volunteer Opportunity!
Are you a lover of farmers' markets and local foods?  Do you have a way with words and want to get involved in the community?  We have a volunteer opportunity for you!

The market is seeking a volunteer to write our weekly blog posts and e-newsletters.  This will require a time commitment of approximately 1 hour per week and last through the 2020 market season.  Email us at indianafarmmarket@gmail.com for more information if you are interested!

Week of September 25 & 28

Thank you, thank you to all who supported Harvest for the Hungry last week!  We delivered 3 boxes and about a dozen bags filled with food, along with several cash donations, to the food pantry at Zion Lutheran Church.  They were so appreciative of the contributions.

The market is still in full swing, and the Saturday market remains open through the END of October - that's 5 more weeks of fresh, local produce and all of your other favorites!  Fall produce items like winter squash and pumpkins are now available.  Sweet corn will be finishing up soon, so get it while you can!

There are 2 weeks left to shop the Wednesday market (final day October 2).

Last week, in addition to our Harvest for the Hungry drive, Power Up Nutrition shared samples and recipes for pumpkin hummus, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank was on hand with healthy recipes and information about SNAP benefits, and we enjoyed more live music by Country Blue.

This week, musician Al Craigie returns - and you never know who will join him!

Foodbucks are back!  Huge thanks to the United Way of Indiana County their generous support.

Harvest for the Hungry

Did you know...
  • 1 in 8 Pennsylvanians struggle with hunger
  • 1 in 6 children in Pennsylvania struggles with hunger
September is Hunger Action Month (through Feeding America), so we are taking action right here at our market.  Read on to learn more about how you can help!

Last week, Home Instead Senior Care and Senior LIFE were on hand to share resources and services available to our senior neighbors.  Color to Dye For joined us once again in the artisan booth with her unique hand-dyed items, jewelry, and home decor.

Thank you to Tony's Orchard for being with us again this season.  Last week was their final market of the year, but we look forward to having them back with even more delicious apples and peaches next season!

Harvest for the Hungry

This week, we join organizations and communities nationwide in supporting Hunger Action Month.  Right here in Indiana County, nearly than 12,000 people are food-insecure, including 3,300 children, meaning that they lack access to enough food for an active, healthy life (USDA).  Children, seniors, and people living in rural areas are at particular risk for food insecurity and hunger.

So, how can you help this weekend?

It's easy!!  Simply purchase extra food items from our market vendors and drop them off at the market information booth (the same booth where you swipe your credit/debit/EBT card for tokens).

All donations will be delivered to the food pantry at Zion Lutheran Church.

Then, be sure to enjoy the other special booths and activities happening at the event.
Some of our vendors will participate, as well.  Mahoning Creek Farm will NOT be at the market this week, but chose to donate 10% of last week's sales (in meats) to the food bank.  Thank you!

Speaking of fall produce, we are starting to see more winter squash and pumpkins.  Buck Run Honey was set up last week, and Lone Oak Farm had their very own real luffa (or loofah, if you prefer) for sale!  Country Blue also returned and provided some great live music!

This week, Home Instead Senior Care will be on hand at the Saturday market with information about their programs and in-home services that seek to "enhance the lives of aging adults and their families."  Color To Dye For will be in the artisan booth with unique hand-dyed clothing, accessories, and fabric.

Week of August 21 & 24

What a great time we had at Customer Appreciation Day last week!  Thank you so much to all who came out this (and every) Saturday to support local growers and producers!

Al Craigie performed once again, with help from some special guests.  Thanks to Laura Ferguson and Stanley Chepaitis (of Uncle Henry's Garden) for joining the fun!

Chef Max of Nap's Cucina Mia did an amazing job cooking up fresh market produce and meat all morning long.  If you tasted something you loved, we hope you'll pick up some veggies at the market and try one of these recipes for yourself!

You can also check out more facts and recipes featuring TOMATOES!

Huge thanks go out to our vendors, who donated produce for the cooking demos and all of the items we gave away in 3 beautiful market baskets!

Speaking of the great giveaway, three lucky shoppers went home with baskets filled to the brim with market goodies - tomatoes, herbs, squash, flowers, soap, cornmeal, sausage, sweet corn, green beans, carrots, melon...oh my!  The winners were Carrie B., Dominique B., and Lucy M - Congratulations!!!

This week, we slow down and regroup a little.  Mother Earth Farm will be back with us, and Tony's Orchard will have the first Gala apples of the year!

Last week, we celebrated local artisans!  In addition to our regular vendors, customers could shop for handspun yarns, knit and crochet items, hand dyed fabrics and accessories, jewelry, and much more!  Thank you to all of the talented artists that joined us - Color to Dye For, Becky Jo Farms, family of Mary K. Artisan Day

Can you believe we are at the halfway point of the season!?!  Time has flown by, but there is still plenty of time to shop the market and enjoy fresh, local produce.

Last week, we enjoyed live music by Dan Stonerook and SNAP resources and recipes from the Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

This Saturday, it's Artisan Day!  Supporting local vendors doesn't have to stop at food!  This week, we welcome local artisans to join our market and sell their unique, handcrafted goods.  It's a perfect day to shop for gifts for loved ones or a special something for yourself.

Here's a sneak peek at our artisans:

Color to Dye For: Hand-dyed clothing, accessories, and fabric.  No two of these unique creations are the same!

Becky Jo Farms:  Handcrafted yarns, knit, and crochet items

Mary K. Gibson (5/12/36 - 9/28/07):  Raised on a shoestring in an isolated coal mining community, Mary K. Gibson grew to be an award-winning local artist and past president of the Indiana Art Association.  Her creative spirit was reflected not only in her artwork - acrylics, watercolors, Scherensnitte (German papercutting), encaustics (wax art), and collage - but alson in her work with children and beginning artists, to whom she showed how to turn a splash of water and a dab of paint into beautiful, colorful works of art.

Matthew Bartus:  Jewelry

In additional to our regular vendors and local artists, Power Up Nutrition will be on hand sharing healthy recipes and samples.
