Market preview July 31 & August 3 (Chef Demo Rescheduled)

Last Saturday at the market we had a large and steady crowd coming through, that is until the massive downpour of rain started and continued until the end of the market! At least someone enjoyed playing in the rain!

We have a very very exciting week at the market!!  On Wednesday Sleepy Hollow Orchard, a vendor I'm sure many of you have been waiting patiently for, will arrive and will be here until the end of the season with fresh picked fruits, starting with plums and apples!  On Saturday we will have another new vendor selling Kettle Corn (!!!) as well as having a guest appearance from chef Nick Karas of Nap's Cucina Mia!  He will be using fresh market produce for a food demonstration and will be giving out samples! **Due to scheduling conflicts, we are going to have to reschedule our food demonstration by Nap's Cucina Mia chef Nick Karas.  Check back later to see when he will be at the market, thank you!** Saturday we will also have live music by Sean Howard, who has been our connection for local musicians working hard to schedule musicians each week!  There will be no artist on Saturday, but check out the calendar and/or artisan/musician tabs to see which artists will be returning for a second showing at the market.

Recipes to sample...
Blueberry Scones -- One of Janet Huber's (3 Ponds Farm) customers used her blueberries to bake the most delicious scone I've ever had the pleasure to try, I don't have her recipe (yet) but wanted to post one for others to try, enjoy!
Ingredients you'll need from the market:  blueberries

Refrigerator Garlic Dill Pickles -- I just made these today so I won't know how they taste until a week from now, but if you'd rather not take the time to can and don't have an over abundance of cucumbers, this recipe was simple and can be made quickly! (Next week I'll post a Shaker Pickle recipe I got from my neighbor)
2012-06-26-Pickles01.jpgIngredients you'll need from the market:  pickling cucumbers, dill, garlic

Roasted Vegetable and Refried Bean Tostadas
Roasted Vegetable & Refried Beans Tostadas -- A delicious way to use a wide variety of summer vegetables.  I even made my own refried beans for this the last time I made it, not that I'll spend all that time again, but it was delicious!
Ingredients you'll need from the market:  zucchini, peppers, other vegetables you like roasting (beets, eggplant, carrots, onions...)

After this Saturday I will be taking a 2 week break from the market for a family vacation and a wedding, while away on vacation I will not be updating the blog or checking emails (sorry but I am a firm believer in no technology while away).  Before I leave I will try and update the blog and send a newsletter!  Thanks and see you all on Saturday!!!
