Last Saturday was one of our busiest days at the market yet, and I have to think it had something to do with our magnificent guest chef Nick Karas from Nap's Cucina Mia. He prepared some off-the-cuff, delicious recipes using market produce right from farmer's hand to chef's table! The crowd may also have been due to the beautiful weather we experienced on Saturday, always making for an enjoyable trip to the market. At lease four of our vendors sold completely out of all of the produce they brought, so a huge THANK YOU to YOU the customer, it's always a good sign when we have vendors selling out, it means we have huge community support!!! We hope to bring chef Nick Karas back for another visit, I know many market patrons & vendors were pleased to see how they could use their fresh produce to create delicious meals.
Coming back this Saturday to the artisans booth is Chere Winnek-Shawer selling beautifully hand crafted jewelry and scarves. We are also hoping for Sleepy Hollow Orchard to return with their apples and peaches, the rain this season has made it hard for their produce. You can look forward to giant watermelons and cantaloupe from a couple of our vendors, as well as all your favorite summer vegetables. *Remember, in just under a month we'll be having our Customer Appreciation Day Saturday, September 21, mark your calendars!*

Recipes to take home and try...Focusing on my favorite market produce, the tomato!!
Fried Green Tomatoes -- A lady at the market on Saturday was asking Nick how to prepare green tomatoes, so I decided to share a green tomato recipe with everyone!
Market produce you'll need--green tomatoes
Watermelon Peach Tomato Salsa -- A recipe that uses up a lot of market produce and is a yummy alternative to your normal salsa.
Market produce you'll need--tomatoes, peaches, watermelons, basil, chives
Quick Corn Avocado Black Bean Tomato Salad-- This quick dish can be prepared in minutes and is so delicious chilled on a warm summer evening. Using raw corn on the cob, chop off the corn kernals and place them in a bowl with chopped avocado, rinsed black beans, chopped cherry tomatoes, snipped basil and oregano. Splash with a bit of olive oil, and either lemon juice, lime juice, or red wine vinegar. Add salt and pepper and voila!
