Week of July 27 & 30

You're the best!  We love our customers, and the market would be nothing without you!  Allow us to show our appreciation this Saturday, July 30th at our annual Customer Appreciation Day!  Read on for event details.

Last week, we welcomed the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to the Wednesday market, where they shared information on the SNAP program, as well as lots of healthy (and  yummy-looking) recipes.

We had a full lineup of special tents on Saturday and enjoyed music by Texas Ted & Jenna Vendetta, yoga sessions with TriYoga of Indiana, handmade accessories by Zepchild Barefoot Sandals, and a fun nature-themed trivia game by the Children's Advisory Council of Indiana County.  Be sure to check out their Family Nature Palooza event coming up in August.

On Saturday, we also welcomed back Sleepy Hollow Orchard and enjoyed the first round of fresh, locally-grown apples.

This week, it is all about you - our loyal customers!  We hope you will join us for our regular Wednesday market and again Saturday for the 2016 Customer Appreciation Day event.  Below is the current lineup for the festivities:

  • Chef demonstrations by Josh Truitt of Coventry Inn - just a couple of his planned dishes include shredded zucchini salad and kale pesto with ground pork from Mahoning Creek Farm
  • Artisan Tyler Gaston - Hand-crafted wooden goods for the home
  • Kids' books and games with the Indiana Free Library
  • Music by Dan Stonerook - Unique blend of classic rock, folk, and blues
  • Sauerkraut workshops with Kendra Fairman
  • Market giveaways, drawings, and more!
Some of our vendors are joining the fun as well, including lamb samples, coupons, and promotional recipe booklets at Mahoning Creek Farm - paid in part by the American Lamb Board.

Sauerkraut demonstrations will be ongoing through the morning, with 15-minute workshops scheduled for 10:00 and 11:00.  If you wish to participate in the workshop, please bring a head of cabbage (available from several market farmers) and a quart jar.  You may also purchase a jar at the booth for $1.  Go home with a jar of your own ready-to-ferment sauerkraut!

Stop by the market booth and test your luck in a FREE drawing for market goodies!  The more you shop, the more entries you can earn!

Be sure to follow our Facebook event for more Customer Appreciation Day updates!

The Indiana Free Library offers programs for children of all ages throughout the year, providing a fun environment to teach early literacy skills through books, songs, hand rhymes, and crafts.

See you at the market!

Week of July 20 & 23

It was a hot one this week, but that didn't stop our amazing vendors from showing up with smiling faces and the very best produce around!  We are seeing more variety each week now, and there is lots of other activity in our special tents, too.  Bring the whole family, a friend, or just yourself and see what the market has to offer!

Last week, we enjoyed delicious, healthy snack samples from Indiana Regional Medical Center at the Wednesday market.  IRMC also joined us on Saturday with information about Urgi-Care services, and Jeremy Vinson shared his talents with us in the musician tent.

We also welcomed yet another new vendor to the market this season - Stutzman Farms.  You may know them for their u-pick blueberries, and now you can buy fresh-picked berries at the farmers' market too!  As we are in the height of blueberry season right now, they are also our featured vendors of the week.

This week, you can look forward to blood pressure screenings from Beacon Ridge and SNAP Outreach information from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Wednesday and a full lineup of special tents at the Saturday market.

In addition to the delicious summer veggies we have already seen at the market, more and more tomatoes are on the way.  Thank you to IRMC for sharing these delicious recipe ideas.

Week of July 13 & 16

Things are really heating up at the market - in more ways than one!  We enjoyed lots of sunshine and warm weather at both the Wednesday and Saturday markets this week.  And, as more and more produce comes into season, we are also seeing more vendors at the Wednesday afternoon market.

If you haven't been by in a while, now is a great time to check it out again!  Wednesday  markets are located in the large parking lot on Wayne Avenue, across from the KCAC from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.

Last week, we welcomed back Eight Maples Farm for the season.  They sell beautiful potted plants and flowers, as well as produce.  I am already looking forward to their delicious watermelons!

Saturday, shoppers had the opportunity to register to vote in our community tent, courtesy of the PA Democratic Party.

This week, we will have Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC) in our community tent sharing information about Urgi-Care and other services.

In produce, we are starting to see more cucumbers, squash, and other summer veggies.  Blueberries and sweet corn are here, too!  Don't forget - Commonplace Coffee is at the market every Saturday this month, and their iced coffee is perfect for a hot July day.

Our weekly vendor spotlight is on Country Bread Barn.  They offer a variety of freshly baked treats, including breads, pies, gobs, sticky buns, and more.  Yum!

Week of July 6 & 9

We hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July and had a chance to celebrate our Independence with some delicious food from the market!  There is still plenty of time left to find your favorite summer recipes!

Last week, we welcomed back Chere Winnek-Shawer and her beautiful handmade jewelry and enjoyed music by Texas Ted & Jenna Vendetta, featuring Doc Pober on the harps - complete with audience seating!  We also learned more about the International Friendship Program and found homes for many deserving plants thanks to the Indiana Garden Club.

Eden Apiaries, Commonplace Coffee, and Nature Works Farm joined our incredible lineup of vendors this week.

This week, we continue with yoga for kids of all ages, handmade fashions from Dancey Pancey, and even more new vendors and produce.  Sweet corn is here!  Also, keep an eye out for fresh blueberries, zucchini, cucumbers, and maybe even some black raspberries!

Our featured vendor this week is Uncle Henry's Garden.  They are new to the market this year and our first Certified Naturally Grown vendor.  Read on to learn more about Stanley & Swana's farm and certification.

Special Tents for this week include:
