Harvest for the Hungry

Did you know...
  • 1 in 8 Pennsylvanians struggle with hunger
  • 1 in 6 children in Pennsylvania struggles with hunger
September is Hunger Action Month (through Feeding America), so we are taking action right here at our market.  Read on to learn more about how you can help!

Last week, Home Instead Senior Care and Senior LIFE were on hand to share resources and services available to our senior neighbors.  Color to Dye For joined us once again in the artisan booth with her unique hand-dyed items, jewelry, and home decor.

Thank you to Tony's Orchard for being with us again this season.  Last week was their final market of the year, but we look forward to having them back with even more delicious apples and peaches next season!

Harvest for the Hungry

This week, we join organizations and communities nationwide in supporting Hunger Action Month.  Right here in Indiana County, nearly than 12,000 people are food-insecure, including 3,300 children, meaning that they lack access to enough food for an active, healthy life (USDA).  Children, seniors, and people living in rural areas are at particular risk for food insecurity and hunger.

So, how can you help this weekend?

It's easy!!  Simply purchase extra food items from our market vendors and drop them off at the market information booth (the same booth where you swipe your credit/debit/EBT card for tokens).

All donations will be delivered to the food pantry at Zion Lutheran Church.

Then, be sure to enjoy the other special booths and activities happening at the event.
Some of our vendors will participate, as well.  Mahoning Creek Farm will NOT be at the market this week, but chose to donate 10% of last week's sales (in meats) to the food bank.  Thank you!
